Al Unser, SR. Indy USA Signed Lithograph
Item: AW8913
Description
After missing the 1969 Indy 500 due to motorcycle accident, Al Unser dominated the 1970, Indy 500 starting on pole with a record speed of 170.221 mph and leading the race for 190 of the 200 laps.
A six-car crash caused him to get sideways a couple of times on the resultant oil spill, but also eliminated a lot of competitors, not least his last serious challenger, A.J. Foyt, who popped his clutch trying to avoid a wall of fire from the incident. Al Unser took a great victory at an average speed of 155.749 mph, some 31.8 seconds from second place Mark Donohue.
